History of the Coleman Invitational

Our Forefathers PhotoSomewhere in the 1950s and 60s the seed of the Coleman Invitational was planted.

Through perseverance, dedication and gentle tutelage of John Coleman, the Coleman boys were transformed from street derelicts and miscreants into golfers.  They developed their oration with such designations as “birdie”, “eagle”, “c’mon we ain’t got all day”, and “you didn’t see that”.
As the Coleman boys matured, their thirst for competition in the spirit of the game also developed.  After much discussion and no fanfare, the initial Coleman Invitational was held in the early 80s.  However, due to the inability of certain family members to correctly add strokes, no winner was declared and future Invitationals appeared in jeopardy.  However, with the onset of associating with honest golfers willing to provide the correct stroke count, the first recognized winner of the Coleman Invitational was crowned in the mid 80s, or so the story goes…
Since that time, the Invitational has become an annual bash in which area golfers anxiously await their invitation to this prestigious event.  Your attendance means you are following in the footsteps of such greats as Jimmy “Ray” Vaughan, Chris “Sliceman” Swiecicki, Michael “Dead-Eye” Murphy, Richard “Ralph Lauren” Fischer, Mike “Boots” Szerzinski, George “Watch out for that tree” Lodes and Gino “Mo” Batisti.
We want to acknowledge the attendees who have traveled from Oklahoma and Chicago to be a part of this historic occasion.  We would also like to recognize past champions, Dave Larson, Mike Laplante, and the returning defending champion.
We thank you for your attendance and certainly hope you relax and enjoy the wonderful day.  If you would like to know more about the Coleman Invitational and its history, you need to get out more.
