The 2014 Coleman Invitational is set to play at Columbia Golf Club on Saturday October 4th at 11:15 a.m. Last seven years (really?) champion Bob Carter (yellow top, green cap in the photo) is rumored to return to defend his title.
A long standing favorite of the Coleman Invitational, Columbia Golf Club has evolved from the $1.50 days the Coleman Boys once enjoyed in their youth. Legend has it that the first Coleman Invitational was played at these hallow grounds. The course plays nearly 6,000 yards from the blue tees and both challenges and tempts golfers to cut corners and avoid woods, fields, water and now homes that nestle the course.
Traditional prizes for closest-to-the-pin, longest drive, and of course lowest score will also be awarded. The highly coveted Coleman Invitational traveling trophy will be hosted by the winner for another full year.
Surely photojournalist will be there to capture this annual event which has provided past competitors with such fond memories of Jimmy Ray "REPATRIATE" Vaughn, George "Watch out for that Tree" Lodes, Mike "Boots" Szerzinski, Devon "Crash" Sauer and Ken "Can I move my Ball" Downey.
As usual, the 19th hole will open immediately after golf. Awarding of the Traveling Trophy, attendance prizes, drink, food and cajoling are all part of the 19th hole.

Cutting edge style once again graced the links as Boots revisted the Coleman Invitational. The player finished 3rd in the annual contest, well ahead of the majority of the golf-shoed competition. What do they know?
The 2007 Coleman Invitational ended in a tie as a Founding Father hands the traveling trophy to the co-winners.
